An open verdict has been recorded on a 52-year-old hospital worker who was found hanging at home.
Bradford Coroner's Court heard how Anne O'Neill seemed distressed and upset when she made a phone call to her son last July.
When Christopher O'Neill went to her house in Woodhouse Way, Keighley, he could not get a reply and forced open the front door.
He then saw her on the stairs with a leather belt around her neck. After using a knife to cut through the belt, he called for an ambulance.
In his statement read to the hearing, Mr O'Neill said he did not know why it had happened.
When tests were carried out, it emerged that the level of alcohol in her blood was "extremely high" - more than four times the legal limit to drive.
Coroner Roger Whittaker said he could not be sure that she wanted to take her own life.
He said the substantial amount of alcohol may well have affected what she intended to do.
