A couple whose dream wedding had to be cancelled when they were called up to serve in Iraq have finally tied the knot.

Keighley woman Tracy Finnan should have married her sweetheart at East Riddlesden Hall, in May.

All the arrangements, including the reception and honeymoon, were in place.

But plans were scuppered when she and her husband-to-be Ian Currie, both members of the Royal Army Medical Corps, were posted to the war zone.

Now, after about three-and-a-half months' service in Iraq, the couple have married in a romantic ceremony in the Dominican Republic.

And unbeknown to Tracy, her mum Sandy and stepfather Keith Morphet had jetted out to surprise the couple just moments before the nuptials began.

Sandy, from the Fell Lane area of Keighley, said: "They knew there was a chance that with events in Iraq the wedding may be in jeopardy, but when it actually had to be cancelled we were all devastated.

"They couldn't get another booking here in August and they didn't want to put off the wedding -- which they had been planning for since last autumn -- until next year, so they went to a travel agents to see what venue they could get abroad.

"Tracy and Ian went out to the Dominican Republic on their own because it was going to be expensive for us all to travel. But there was no way I was going to miss my daughter's wedding so Keith and myself flew over there and surprised them about five minutes before the ceremony."

A reception was held at the Five Flags Hotel, Cullingworth -- the original intended venue for the post-wedding do -- last Friday, so that other family members and friends could share in the celebrations.

Tracy, 20, and 24-year-old Ian are both based at Tidworth, in Wiltshire, where they met about two-and-a-half years ago. They served at separate locations in Iraq.

Tracy -- a former Keighley army cadet, and an ex-pupil of Holy Family School -- was predominantly based in the area around Basra and her duties included seeing to the medical needs of Iraqi prisoners.

Ian's role included tank driving.

Tracy is the daughter of Patrick Finnan and Sandy Morphet, and Ian is the son of Lily Walker and John Currie.
