David and Pauline Thompson returned from honeymoon 29 years ago to find a pram on the roof of their Steeton home.

The joke by David's brother-in-law Raymond Hutchinson was fateful because Pauline turned out to be pregnant with son Christian.

Now Christian is 28 and has himself played the same pram prank on his younger sister Martina, a primary school teacher.

She returned from honeymoon with new husband Dean Simpson to find a pushchair on the roof of their Cross Hills home. The couple, of Newlands Drive, immediately knew Christian was the one behind the eye-opening bid to repeat history.

The original pram in 1974 -- on the roof of Hawkcliffe Farm, between Utley and Steeton, was seen by thousands of passing motorists.

David, who now lives at Whinburn Farm, Keighley, said: "The house had just been built and all you saw was the pram.

"It had an effect because Christian was born nine months after. He must have been a honeymoon baby."

Christian, Martina and their brother Daniel grew up knowing about the notorious event and had seen pictures of the old Silver Cross pram.

Christian and Daniel were groomsmen at Dean and Martina's wedding but Christian only hit on the idea after Martina and Dean -- a well-known stockcar racer -- had left on honeymoon.

Sutton man Christian and his friend Ed Harrison climbed on the roof with the pushchair the day before the couple returned from Mexico.

Martina said: "We had no idea. We got back at 7am and we could see it as we approached the house.

"I saw the funny side. It's very much like Christian -- he's a bit of prankster."

But will the family tradition continue with the arrival of the next generation in nine months? Certainly not!" said Martina. "I'm not having a baby -- we eventually will but I think it will be at least a year."
