A 26-year-old man and four teenagers have been charged with attacking an off-duty police constable last month.
Gary Gregory, who works for Greater Manchester Police, suffered head and shoulder injuries when he was assaulted after confronting a group near the Five Flags Hotel in Denholme, on August 28.
On Saturday Barry Briggs, of Broadstone Way, Holme Wood, appeared before the city's magistrates along with three boys and a girl who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
All five face a charge of unlawful and malicious wounding and aggravated vehicle taking.
Briggs and a 17-year-old boy were both remanded in custody. A 17-year-old girl and the two other 16-year-old boys were all granted conditional bail.
