A teenager had his throat slashed, a 20-year-old man was battered over the head and two men were attacked with iron bars in a night of savagery on the district's streets.

A 17-year-old, of West Bowling, suffered a serious neck injury when he was cut across the throat outside the Queens Hall in Morley Street, Bradford city centre shortly after 2am yesterday.

He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he underwent surgery. Detective Sergeant Chris Walker, of Bradford South CID, said the victim's injuries were serious but not life threatening.

Det Sgt Walker said there had been a dispute between a number of men shortly after the club closed.

A weapon had been used in the assault but had not yet been found.

The area outside Queens Hall was cordoned off while police carried out a forensic examination of the scene yesterday.

The second assault happened in Horton Park Lane, Canterbury, close to the junction with Louis Avenue, also just after 2am yesterday.

A 20-year-old man was on his way home after a night at the pub when he was set upon by a group of four or five men he had been walking with.

He was hit over the head with a blunt implement and was found unconscious, suffering from a fractured skull, minutes later lying on a grass verge.

He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary but transferred to Leeds General Infirmary where he was yesterday in a serious but stable condition.

Det Sgt Walker said the victim had been drinking in the Little Horton Lane area during the evening and had left the Venue pub to walk home.

He appealed for anyone who had seen the offence or witnessed the group of people walking up Little Horton Lane to contact them.

Police particularly want to hear from the driver of a red car who stopped at the scene while the victim was lying on the grass but then drove off. The motorist is not connected to the assault but may have vital information.

Anyone who can help with either incident should contact Bradford Central CID on (01274) 376485.

Another young man suffered head injuries after he was hit with a crowbar during a fight at the Kingswood Arms pub in Cutler Heights Lane, Cutler Heights, at about midnight on Saturday.

Det Sgt Walker said a number of people had been ejected from the pub after a dispute during a birthday party but a fight broke out when they returned to the premises.

The victim was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for observations. He was in a comfortable condition and not expected to be detained.

A crowbar was recovered from the scene. Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident.

Three men were arrested and were being questioned about the assault.

And in Keighley, a 25-year-old Haworth man was beaten with an iron bar during what was described as an "unprovoked and vicious" attack by a gang of youths. He was walking with three friends along Low Street at 2.40am yesterday from the K2 nightclub when they were confronted.

The man was today in a stable condition at Leeds General Infirmary although his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Detectives believe it may have been a case of mistaken identity and want any witnesses to call them on (01535) 617083.
