A PROMISING young rugby league player is hoping to get the call into the U-15s Great Britain squad after performing well at county level.
14-year-old Ben Carley is a member of Keighley Cougars U-15s team and was picked by Yorkshire to represent his county in games against a North East and Cumbria side.
Those games took place over the recent Bank Holiday weekend.
Now Ben -- who also managed to score a try in his second appearance against Cumbria -- is hoping his exploits with Yorkshire will earn him another call-up.
He hopes his try scoring and general performances have been illuminating enough to impress the selectors of the Great Britain U-15s side.
His mother, Angela Wright, said: "I think the national squad is announced this Friday and Ben is just hoping he is in it.
"I am very proud of him and he played well in his two matches."
Ben was one of 20 boys throughout Yorkshire called into the squad.
He and the other players then travelled to Leeds to train with the Yorkshire coaches before the matches with Cumbria and the North East sides.
Added Angela: "We received the letter (from Yorkshire) about three weeks ago but we let Ben open it even though it wasn't addressed to him.
"He just kept saying 'I'm in, I'm in' and was really excited.
"We hope he might get into the Great Britain squad now but we will just have to wait and see what happens.
"I am really proud of him whatever happens though."
