Eccleshill United 3, Pontefract Collieries 1: United skipper Richard Wilson bagged a brace from his centre half role as Eccleshill cruised through to the quarter-finals of the Northern Counties East President's Cup with a home win.
Division One visitors Pontefract never matched their hosts from the Premier but did net a late penalty to give them some consolation.
Wilson bundled the ball in after just five minutes to open the scoring and netted his second just after the half-hour mark. Striker Chris Wood muscled his way past his marker to shoot home in the 76th minute.
United's three-goal cushion was cut almost immediately. Pontefract came straight back with an attack and Mark Whiteley tangled with a forward on the edge of the area and made contact just inside. Rick Haywood netted the resulting spot kick.
"I'm pleased with the result, we did a professional job and four of the young lads who came into the side did very well," said United boss Tony Brown.
"Rob Morgan has had a decent debut and it was a good workout for the squad. I don't think we were ever in any danger."
