Nicky Summerbee has said sorry for swearing at City fans.

Summerbee was today writing letters of apology to supporters who complained following his four-letter outburst in the Crewe match.

The winger has expressed his regret for the incident, which happened during the second half on Tuesday.

Summerbee yesterday held a meeting with manager Nicky Law and chief executive Julian Rhodes where he admitted retaliating to comments from the away fans.

The winger said it had happened in the heat of the moment and that he should not have reacted.

Rhodes said: "Nicky held his hands up. He knew what he did was wrong and immediately offered to write out an apology to the fans concerned."

There is history between Summerbee and some supporters after he turned down a move to City when they were in the Premiership.

But Summerbee does not feel he has a battle to win over a section of the fans.

He said: "What I've done in my career and the amount of games I've played stands for itself. I have standards myself and I have a lot to prove because of that."

Summerbee has played eight times for City since signing a contract until the end of next season. He scored on his debut against Preston but Law felt the 32-year-old's performance at Gresty Road was his best for the club.

Midfielder Paul Evans said: "Nicky put over some great crosses. It was a fantastic ball to Ben Muirhead for the equaliser."
