Stalwart shopper Kathleen Smith had more reasons to call at Morrisons on Monday -- because she was opening it!

She was invited by the supermarket giant to cut the ribbon at the revamped Keighley store.

Her husband, Colin, had secretly written to the company asking if his wife could perform the honours.

Kathleen, from Oakworth, has been a Morrisons customer for more than 40 years.

She is known to her friends as "two for one Kathleen" for her skill at finding bargains.

She shopped initially at the Bolton Junction store in Bradford, and then transferred to the Keighley outlet when it opened in 1968.

Kathleen on Monday was presented with a bouquet of flowers, and treated to a meal and behind-the-scenes tour of the new-look supermarket.

She told us: "When I got a phone call from Morrisons inviting me to open the store I thought at first it was someone having me on. It was a lovely surprise to be asked.

"I had a very enjoyable time on Monday. Everyone was really friendly, and I saw parts of the store that you do not normally see when you go shopping - it was very impressive."

The supermarket has undergone a multi-million-pound transformation, with the addition of facilities including fresh food shops, a 200-seat restaurant and an audio bar.

General manager Debbie Rawson said: "It is fantastic that Kathleen's husband wrote to us, they are very loyal customers.

"Years ago they used to battle through all weathers to get to us on their motorbike and sidecar.

"It is a real pleasure that Kathleen cut the ribbon to officially open the store."
