CHARITY campaigner Jackie Dennis has died just 12 weeks after taking part in a 'Race for Life' to raise money for cancer charities.
Jackie, 42, from Haworth, was already very ill with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma - a form of cancer - when she was joined by over 60 family and friends to take part in the run at Lister Park in Bradford.
She was already weakened by the illness, and the treatment she was having, but was determined to complete the run. She walked the first 2k and covered the rest of the course in a wheelchair before being joined by the rest of her team, and cheered by others taking part, as she crossed the line.
Her 'TeamJackie' campaign raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities and HODU, the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit at Airedale Hospital, Steeton.
She worked in the office at Oakbank School and had been fighting the illness for 18 months, but suffered further complications and died peacefully at Airedale Hospital on Saturday morning surrounded by her husband John and her family.
She is survived by her husband John and sons Patrick, 8, and George, 7.
John, who is co-ordinator of the SportKeighley partnerships said: "One of her last wishes was to thank everyone who has shown us so much care and support over the last few months."
He is to continue the 'TeamJackie' campaign. "There will be a number of future sporting challenges to raise funds for the superb team of medical staff at Airedale Hospital," John said.
A funeral service is to be held today at noon at Haworth Parish Church, with donations going to the HODU appeal at Airedale Hospital.
