A GROUP of men are planning to reveal all to raise money for a senior citizens' centre in Barnoldswick.

The men are planning to pose nude for a calendar to raise money for refurbishments at the Frank Street OAP Centre, in Barnoldswick.

Dianne Hodkinson, a member of the entertainments committee, said initially she persuaded two workers from the town's recycling unit at Victory Park to strip for the calendar, and in turn they have recruited another eight waste disposal men from across the district.

She explained: "I was just trying to find folk willing to do stuff for charity and at first I asked if they would be prepared to do a 'Full Monty' at the centre and they were all up for it," said Dianne.

They then agreed to strip for a nude calendar as pioneered by the Rylstone and District WI Calendar Girls. The idea is that they will pose using strategically placed implements from their trade.

Connie Pickles, chairman of the OAP centre, said: "As we are a charity we could do with any help we can at the moment.

"We are looking for anyone who can actually help us with the calendar and offer us any advice, such as where we could get it printed. We also need a photographer who would hopefully offer their services free of charge."

In the meantime the men will perform "Full Monty" style at the centre after Christmas.

"There'll be other turns on as well, but the highlight of the show will be the men's performance," said Connie.

Work is currently being carried out on the OAP centre, including building another wall at the rear with anti-vandal protection to stop children from climbing onto the roof.

The centre has also secured grant funding to pay for new curtains, carpeting, tables and chairs as well as lights for the stage area.

The next stage of the work will be to improve access for the disabled, elderly and infirm. This work will include making alterations to the toilet facilities, widening the doors and raising the height of the kitchen surfaces.

Meanwhile other fundraising activities are being organised to raise money for the centre, starting with a Hallowe'en party for local children on Friday October 31.

Attractions at the party, which is for children aged five to 10, include ghost stories, a Hallowe'en fancy dress competition, a disco and refreshments.

The fun will start at 6pm and continue until around 9pm and the entrance fee is £1.50.
