A SKIPTON man has died after he fell 100ft down a crag.
The 33-year-old man, who was an experienced walker, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head and chest injuries and a broken leg.
He died in hospital two days later.
Police say the man, whose name has not been released, was well equipped and was with his brother.
They were walking between Clapham and Austwick along Thwaite Lane when the incident happened around 2.15pm on Sunday.
A police spokesman said that they were scrabbling across a slope near the crag face when the victim grabbed a piece of rock, which broke away.
He then tumbled backwards down a scree slope before sliding over the edge of the rock face and plummeting 30 foot down the crag face, landing on some flatter scree.
Both air and ground ambulance attended the scene along with members of Clapham's Cave Rescue Organisation.
A CRO spokesman said that the two men were walking along Robin Procter's Scar. "We attended to help the ambulance people carry the lad into the helicopter."
A spokesman for Lancashire Air Ambulance said that the helicopter left the scene at 3.18pm and arrived at Airedale General Hospital eight minutes later.
At Airedale he was given a CT scan before being transferred to the intensive care unit at Leeds. He died on Tuesday.
