You'd think folk fans would be among the least likely music lovers to get steamed up.

But they will this weekend at the first folk 'n' beer festival on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

There will be live music, real-ale, morris dancing and special bus and steam services tomorrow and Sunday.

Haworth performer Tim Moon will be among folk and acoustic singers and musicians appearing up and down the line.

Up to a dozen dance teams will include Persephone, Bradshaw Mummers, Stone The Crows and Mucky Mountain, Britannia Coconut and Rainbow Morris.

Among 40 beers will be examples from brewers Timothy Taylor, Phoenix, Jennings, Goose Eye and Humpty Dumpty.

There will be real-ale bars and live music on all trains and at the Oxenhope Exhibition shed, as well as a Saturday evening steam train.

A free bus service will run between Oxenhope station and the new Moorland Brewery at the Waggon and Horses pub.

Visitors to the "celebration of everything that is truly English" can buy tickets on the day of travel. Phone 01535 645214 for fares and times.

n Local musicians of all ages are being urged to watch one of the country's top rock drummers pass on his secrets next week.

Steve White, brother of Oasis' Alan, will be in Keighley on Tuesday to lead a "drum clinic" at the town's New Variety Club.

Musicians from across the north of England are expected to flock to the 200-capacity venue.

Steve has for the past two decades drummed for former Jam and Style Council singer Paul Weller.

He has also worked with Liam Gallagher from Oasis, Steve Craddock of Ocean Colour Scene and former Stone Roses guitarist Aiziz Ibrahim.

He has been hailed a "British institution" for his brilliant playing, inimitable style, complete professionalism and dedication to his art.

Tuesday's clinic has been arranged by Keighley man Roger "Trotwood" Nowell, a long-time roadie for Paul Weller.

Roger, a musician with Skeletal Family, says Steve is regarded in the music industry as Britain's number one drummer.

He said: "The club holds only 200 people so they should book early. People will come from as far away as Leeds and Manchester.

"It will be not so much a lecture as a demonstration of drumming. It's not as "trainspotting" as it sounds."

Roger says previous clinics have been family affairs, with young drum students finding it particularly useful.

Assisting Steve during the session at the New Variety Club, Russell Street, will be Ocean Colour Scene bass player Damon Minchella.

Tickets are on sale at the Boardroom, upstairs in Speaks outdoor shop next to Keighley bus station.

n Excitement, enthusiasm, musical wizardry and all-round wonderfulness are the orders of this evening.

That's when leading folk band Last Night's Fun performs a concert at St Anne's Catholic Social Club in Keighley.

The town's Bacca Pipes Folk Club is moving from its usual Friday venue so more people can see the performance.

Last Night's Fun brings together long-time collaborators Chris Sherburn and Denny Bartley with Nick Scott.

The first two men are said to combine rich and soulful vocals with driving guitar & concertina playing.

Their "animated and valuable" interpretations of traditional music have been boosted by Nick's emotive playing of the Uilleann Pipes.

The music is said to range from slow airs that bring the audience out in goose bumps, to full-paced songs surging with intensity.

As well as building a strong following for its rousing music the band is popular for its between-songs "larking about".

Last Night's Fun performs at the St Anne's club on North Street, from about 8.30pm. Phone 01535 605310.
