A 33-year-old-year-old Skipton man has died after he fell 100ft down a crag in the Dales.
The man, who was an experienced walker, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head and chest injuries and a broken leg.
He was well equipped and out with his brother, walking between Clapham and Austwick along Thwaite Lane.
The incident happened around 2.15pm on Sunday when the two men were crossing a slope near the crag face.
A police spokesman said that the man was scrabbling across the slope when a piece of rock broke away.
He then tumbled backwards down a scree slope before sliding over the edge of the rock face and plummeting 30 foot down the crag face, landing on some flatter scree.
Both air and ground ambulance attended the scene. Paramedics were unable to reach the man, who has not yet been named by police, and the cave rescue team went to get him. A spokesman for Cave Rescue said the two men were walking along Robin Procter's Scar.
