Skipton Dolphins squad swimmers were in action at the Yorkshire Amateur Swimming Association Age Group Championships at Pond's Forge, Sheffield last weekend and the cascade of personal best times posted in a tremendous team effort underlined the rapid progress made in recent weeks.

Samantha Wellock won a silver medal in the Girls' 10 years 50m freestyle and in doing so lowered her personal best with a time of 32.97 secs.

Abigail Rhodes won bronze in the Girls' 9 years 50m breaststroke with a personal best of 47.62 secs and also posted best times in the freestyle (35.71), the butterfly (41.2) and the back-stroke (43.8).

Gemma Harlowe reached the Girls 9 years backstroke and butterfly finals, with a personal best of 44.39 secs in the latter. She also sliced a large chunk off her previous best in the 200m individual medley when a time of 3.28.20 earned her seventh place.

Luke Binns was a heat winner in the Boys' 14 years 100m freestyle and Simon Dawson also posted a personal best of 51.3 secs in the Boys 10 years breaststroke on his county debut.

Lorna Dawson followed the record trend in the Girls' 12 years breaststroke with a 1.25.95 swim and she also produced an outstanding breaststroke leg in the 200m individual medley to move from the rear of the field into first place.

Hazel Dawson also helped to complete a good day's swimming for the Skipton contingent when she claimed a top-10 finish in the Girls' 14 years 100m Breaststroke.

Eight Skipton SC members made the county qualifying times, the highest number in recent years and a reward for all the hard work being put in by the Dolphins squad.

The annual Skipton Swimming Club gala will be held at the Craven Pool on November 12, with the warm-up at 6pm, and November 13, warm-up 7pm.

Entry forms are available at training sessions and races will be held for all age-groups.
