This evening's Super League Grand Final will be all about the gorillas, but don't rule out a surprising return for Wigan's Lam, says Bulls coach Brian Noble.
Star half-back Adrian Lam has been publicly ruled out of contention for selection by Wigan coach Mike Gregory.
On Monday Gregory told a press conference at Old Trafford: "Lammy still feels he could offer something to the game but we've had to chain him down and tell him that he won't be selected."
But Noble is preparing for the possibility that his good mate Gregory is out to spring a surprise on match day.
Asked if the Bulls were planning to target Lam's replacement, Luke Robinson, Noble replied: "We've got some ideas in that respect. But I'm not too sure there may not be a surprise or two on the day. I don't buy it."
The Bulls are prepared to target the inexperienced pairing of Robinson and Sean O'Loughlin in the halves, said Noble.
"If that happens to be their starting pair on the day then we'll be ready for that. But if Adrian Lam is anywhere near fit then he may get a shout, and we'll be prepared for that too."
Noble said Gregory was right to predict the game would swing on whoever achieved forward domination.
"He's an astute judge. Their go-forward is pretty important to them at the moment. Quentin Pongia, Craig Smith and Terry O'Connor are going really well for them."
The Bulls' big men - Joe Vagana, Stuart Fielden and Paul Anderson - will have their work cut out for them, said Noble.
"It'll be like a gang of silverbacks gorillas going against each other. You've got to win the middle and you have got to win the ground and you do that with your silverbacks. It's pretty much a battle of those blokes."
Noble said he was more than happy with the appointment of Warrington's Karl Kirkpatrick as referee for the final.
"As long as he's anonymous I don't care who it is."
