A makeshift Odsal Sedbergh side crashed to a heavy 64-4 defeat against Pennine League Division One leaders Drighlington at Odsal Rec.

The lure of Old Trafford proved to be too strong to resist for most of the first-team squad and after a number of frantic phone calls Sedbergh managed to scrape together 13 men.

Against all the odds they shocked the high-flying visitors by driving downfield straight from the kick off and hooker Steve Chapman darted over from acting half. Scrum-half Graham Harrison unfortunately missed the easy extras.

Player-coach Gary Priestley turned the clock back with some precision kicks and was unlucky not to increase the lead when a clever effort was defused over the line.

Drighlington then started to throw the ball about in style and raced to a 30-4 advantage at the break.

Substitute forward Adam Stead then went on to score a hat-trick but Sedbergh stuck to their unenviable task in what turned out to be all one-way traffic with loose forward Lee Birkett earning the plaudits for his non-stop tackling display.

Premier Division newcomers Victoria Rangers opened the scoring with a drop goal from scrum half Jason Jubb early doors in their home encounter against Keighley Albion.

But it was the visitors who turned round 10-1 up thanks to two tries midway through the first half. They turned on the gas to score another converted try and a penalty before substitute Ikram Butt raced under the posts for a splendid touchdown and Jubb tagged on the extra two.

Albion however continued on their merry way and another two converted tries saw them home comfortably by 30-7.

Vics new signing Rashid Mahmood had an outstanding debut and hooker Ray Greenwood led by example throughout.

Two late drop goals from scrum half Johnny Feather gave Queensbury A the spoils 14-12 in the Division Two derby at home to Dudley Hill Eagles.

The Eagles were first on the scoreboard when Dave Newhall crossed and Danny Whiteley added the two.

Queensbury levelled matters when wingman Richard Batty raced in at the corner and Feather added a touchline conversion.

The speedster was once again on hand to cross for his second and with Feather bang on target once again Queensbury led 12-6 at the break.

With ten minutes gone on the restart the Eagles' Carl Simpson crossed the whitewash and Whiteley calmly levelled matters once more.

A draw looked to be on the cards until Feather stepped forward to claim the points.
