Calderdale Way, a 50 mile recreational walk on a circular route between Brighouse and Todmorden, was officially declared open at the weekend by Lord Winstanley, chairman of the Countryside Commission. But although he set out after the ceremony with some 200 ramblers on the first five mile stretch of the walk from West Vale, near Halifax to Ripponden, he was not the first off the mark as several people had already set out in the early morning.

Mr. Fred Mulley (Lab. Park, Sheffield) is to ask the Minister of Transport (Mr. Lennox-Boyd) if he is aware of the distraction to motorists and consequent danger of accidents, of the blinking lights on zebra crossings and if he will consider some alternative means of lighting these crossings. He will also ask the Minister if he will consider the advantages of requiring all motorists to insert an anti-glare disc in their headlights.
