A charity has expanded its premises in order to accommodate a demonstration centre that provides equipment and advice to disabled people and their carers.
Disability Equipment Bradford is part of the charity Disability Advice Bradford. The centre in Dockfield Road, Shipley, provides people with the chance to try out specialist equipment before making a purchase.
The centre was officially opened by Mrs Margaret Pethers and her daughter. Mrs Pethers was the first client to visit and receive advice from Disability Equipment Brad-ford.
The aim of the centre is to help disabled people to remain in their own homes and be as independent as possible.
An occupational therapist is employed to assess the individual abilities and needs of people living with a disability.
The centre also provides access to a internet-based software system called ADL Smartcare. The programme is designed to aid people with their choice of equipment quickly and at reduced cost.
The centre's general manager, Peter Clarke, said: "I feel this new venture completes the picture and we can now help people with disabilities in every sphere of their lives".
The project will also provide support, training and work experience for volunteers with a disability as a stepping-stone towards paid employment.
A week of open days started on Tuesday.
Individuals, groups, carers and professionals can visit the centre to receive impartial guidance, support and expert advice recommending or providing necessary equipment and adaptations.
For details of the hours, phone 594173 or 589162.
