Lothersdale Primary School pupils took shoe boxes rather than fruit and vegetables to their harvest festival.
They filled boxes with useful items for children living through the winter in East European countries.
Toys, sweets, gloves and hats were among items in the "21st Century Child" packages prepared by the 90 pupils.
The harvest festival was held during assembly at the school last Friday, in which youngsters read poems and sang harvest songs.
The boxes will be sent to children living in Bosnia, Romania and Belarus.
