Bonfire and firework safety were top of the timetable for pupils at schools in Keighley this week.
Greenhead High School teamed-up with West Yorkshire Police and the fire service for a community project warning children against playing with fireworks.
The Expressive Arts Department at the high school visited five Keighley primary schools -- Holycroft, St Andrew's, Victoria, St Anne's RC and Guard House -- on Monday and Tuesday to present a dance and drama performance about fireworks.
Hillary Longfellow, head of expressive arts, said: "The message was that fireworks are beautiful -- it is the people who abuse them that give them a bad name."
The police and fire service then gave a brief talk about firework safety and the laws governing their use.
School liaison officer PC Richard Berry said: "This has been a very exciting project to be involved with.
"The pupils have risen to the challenge and prepared some brilliant pieces of art and dramatic work."
Insp Nigel Cawthorne, of Keighley police division's community safety department, said: "This should be a fun time of year for youngsters but too often careless use of fireworks leads to serious injury with lasting scars or worse.
"It's great that young people are highlighting the dangers and working with the agencies to put the safety message across.
"A knock on effect is that'safe use of fireworks also means they don't cause a nuisance to others by letting them off in unsuitable locations in the lead up to bonfire night."
