A £1.3 million programme of measures to improve facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists along the Toller Lane corridor has been given the go ahead.
The series of measures from Bradford Council includes improvements to traffic junctions and better facilities at bus stops.
Proposals for the four-year scheme were approved by the Bradford West Area Committee.
The area covered in the plans includes Westgate, White Abbey Road, Whetley Hill and Duckworth Lane.
The improvements include: widening the congested junction of Toller Lane, Whetley Hill, Whetley Lane and Carlisle Road; new cycle lanes; traffic signals at the junction of Toller Lane and Smith Lane; improved pedestrian crossings; resurfaced footpaths; better access to buses for elderly and disabled passengers.
The cash for the scheme was approved by the Council's executive committee as part of its Integrated Transport Capital Programme.
Forums have been held for the public to view the plans and give their opinions.
Richard Day, the Council's project manager for the scheme, said it was hoped to install pedestrian crossings at the Toller Lane, Whetley Hill, Whetley Lane and Carlisle Road junction.
Extra funding for bus passenger facilities will be secured from the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.
The committee said Council officers should also consider tackling traffic problems in Little Lane and Leylands Lane.
