Bradford's Jason Barnett has had his World Championship options reduced - even before he competes in tomorrow's ANB (Association of National Bodybuilders) British Championships at Corby, Northamptonshire.
There are two main bodybuilding organisations - the ANB (an older federation) and the BNBF (British Natural Bodybuilding Federation).
And the 31-year-old support manager at Haycliffe School has already qualified for the BNBF world finals in New York on the weekend of November 15-16.
He also hoped to qualify for the ANB World Championships in Belgium by finishing first in his section tomorrow, but has found out that the rival organisations are holding their World Championships at the same time.
Barnett explained: "They are two totally different federations at world level, with the ANB mainly based in Europe, but there is no doubt in my mind which World Championships I will go to.
"With the ANB you make your own way to Dover and then get picked up by coach, whereas with the BNBF it is an eight-night and eight-day stay in New York, you get money to help you while you are over there and a tracksuit too - I'm off to New York on Wednesday, November 12!"
Barnett added: "There is a lot of infighting between the federations and one of them will probably go under eventually, but although this has taken one of my options away I will still compete in Corby tomorrow.
"Britain has a good reputation in bodybuilding - you might finish second or third in a British Championship, but still be good enough to finish fourth in a World Championships.
"Training is going really well and, even though I have made my mind up I don't want to go to Calais, I still want to win the BNBF title and beat Tony Montalbano, one of my main rivals.
"If I do beat him Tony has said he won't go to Calais as the British runner-up - he feels only national champions should go to a World Championships - so I don't know what would happen there."
