Daniel Harris has hundreds of women begging him to take his clothes off every night - with his girlfriend's blessing.

The former Bradford gym instructor has swopped the world of fitness for the Full Monty after winning a televised search for a new strip troupe.

The 21-year-old was one of eight finalists picked from hundreds of wannabes who auditioned Pop Idol-style across the country.

And he admits he owes his success to girlfriend Naomi Richardson, who secretly applied for him.

The couple used to work together at the Heartbeat Fitness Centre in Little Germany, to where the initial application form was sent.

"I am really quite shy. It was her idea," said Daniel, of Cleckheaton.

"She and the other girls at the gym got together and applied for me behind my back.

"When there was a reply from the television company, I went along with it and went to the audition.

"I didn't expect to get anywhere. But now I have I admit I couldn't do it without her."

And he admits his first show, in Shepherds Bush, London, where Naomi was in the audience, was nerve-wracking.

"I was in a G-string and having to jump into a crowd but I was glad she was there.

"The nerves were there at the start but once you get on stage and the screams start then you thrive on them.

"The more they scream the more you have to give an audience.

"It's great fun to be on stage in front of hundreds of women. It's going to be amazing."

Naomi, of Tyersal, Bradford, said: "I am very proud of him. He treats me so well that whatever he does on stage I know it is me he comes home to at nights.

"He has done well but he is so humble. He just thinks he is a regular guy, and that is really endearing.

"The girls at work put me up to entering him for the contest and I am glad he did!"

Daniel, who attended Whitcliffe Mount School, admitted it was a shock change of career.

The final edition of the programme, showing the Shepherds Bush concert, is aired on cable channel Living TV tomorrow. "If someone had told me this summer I would end up in a job like this I would have told them to do a running jump," he said.

"I still can't believe it's true. It has not hit home."

Next month he starts a nationwide tour with the Strip Search boys.

On tour he will be performing a 1970s- style solo routine set to Saturday Night Fever and Burn Baby, Burn, along with several group sets.

The tour starts next month. The tickets hotline is 0870 1432203.
