Tarquin Turner was a young man from a close, caring family who worked to give care and comfort to elderly people at St Catherine's home in Manningham and relaxed in the evenings with a drink or two at his favourite club.

Now that family has been shattered by a moment of brutality which left Tarquin dead in the grounds of Undercliffe Cricket Club, where he was attacked as he strolled along the path to begin his night out. And, apparently, it was all for the sake of his mobile phone and the £20 he had in his wallet.

This is yet another appalling crime to add to the fear of violence which undermines the peace of mind of so many people in our troubled times. The person or people who carried out the attack must be found and brought to justice.

Trevor Turner's dignified appeal for those with information about his son's attackers must be heeded. There is someone in Bradford who knows who it was who either lay in wait for Tarquin or launched an unprovoked, opportunist attack on him.

It is their duty to their fellow citizens and to their own conscience to come forward and tell the police what they know or suspect before some other Bradford person, quietly going about their business, is similarly attacked.

Meanwhile, the Turner family must take what comfort they can from the floral tributes and messages of sympathy which have flooded in. As this closely-knit family try to cope with their grief, they can surely gain strength from the knowledge that so many people share their suffering and want to show that they care.
