Pupils from six schools were faced with mirror images as part of a digital art workshop.

The workshop, which took place at Greenhead High School's City Learning Centre, was for gifted year ten art students.

The artists -- from Holy Family, Greenhead, Oakbank, Parkside, Bingley Grammar and Ilkley Grammar -- took digital photographs of themselves and edited them using computer software.

Steve Morrell, head of art at Holy Family, said: "We felt that it would be a good opportunity to make use of the City Learning Centre facilities. It is basically a set of computers that are linked together and there is a specialised teacher working with the arts staff and looking at a project called digital imaging.

"The pupils are given a starting point, which is a picture of themselves and guided through putting it on to the computers as a digital image and manipulating it."

The workshop was the first event organised by the Three Valley Cluster for Gifted and Talented artists, which was set up to extend the curriculum for talented pupils.

Mr Morrell said: "This is a gifted and talented initiative, as part of Bradford's excellence in schools programme, targeting students at the upper end of the ability range to ensure their adequate provision in school."

The group was supervised by art teachers from each of the schools, who inputted their own suggestions and ideas into the project, including different uses of patterns and colours.
