Fans of Johnny and the Poorboys can't get enough of their heroes.

Now they don't have to wait for their fix of the Poorboys' trademark "Celtic alternative country rock and roll".

The seven-piece Keighley band (above) has released its first album mixing covers, traditional songs and self-written stompers.

The Girl in the Cowboy Hat (review below), featuring 12 tracks, should be on sale during tomorrow's gig at the Snooty Fox in Oakworth.

The four songs from the Poorboys' first CD are included but have been remixed.

Along with them are popular live tracks and songs originally by Chuck Berry and Sonny Curtis.

Johnny said: "It's a very good record. We're very pleased with how it came out. It gives a good impression of what we're like live."

The £10 album, on sale at gigs and from the band's web site, also includes two songs never before heard.

Tomorrow's line-pop includes the band's new members, guitarist Nick Procter and drummer Graham Dixon.

n Fatter, faster and more mature -- that's the new-sound Breene.

Rock fans can hear the improvements a new member and a musical shift can make next month at Victoria Hall.

The Keighley band (above) plays alongside Honeytoad, Downfall and Worm at the second Real Music concert on November 15.

It will showcase guitarist Joey McEvoy who recently joined singer-guitarist Eddy O'Dwyer, drummer Kurt Wood and bassist Chris Smeaton.

Breene started as a three-piece playing pop-punk cover versions alongside similar-sounding original material.

The band progressed towards a heavier punk sound including covers by Motorhead, Black Sabbath and the Sex Pistols.

Tickets for the Real Music gig are on sale at Keighley Information Centre in the town hall, the King's Head pub on South Street, or by phoning 07976 769991.

n Singer-guitarist Alan Rose can be most often seen trying his craft at the Bacca Pipes Folk Club.

Now he's landed another regular venue where he'll be performing on the third Sunday of every month.

Alan, one of the club's organisers, can next be seen at the Turkey Inn, Goose Eye (near Laycock), on November 16.

He's also running a "guitar for all" class at Keighley College every Tuesday (7-9pm) in Room NB8.

n Members of Keighley bands past and present packed the New Variety Club as musicians Steve White and Damon Minchella hosted a drumming workshop.

Set to play the venue are Leigh and Tony from Terrorvision's latest band Laika Dog, and former Oasis bassist Guigs' new reggae band.

n Keighley rock bands Wet Paint and Circus? play the Parkside Social Club, Butt Lane Haworth, tomorrow from 8pm. Admission is £3.

n Hush play pop-rock tonight at the Royal, Clayton.

n Playing the Willow Tree pub, Riddlesden, tomorrow are local band Second Cousin.

Ben Needham and Robin Petty appear for the first time at the Bacca Pipes Folk Club tonight.

Apparently they offer "great guitar and sublime vocals" from 8.30pm at the club venue, Keighley Ukrainian Club on Henry Street.
