RESOUNDING wins for the top clubs in all divisions helped the teams secure the places.
In Division One, Nemesis A visited Red Rose B and handed out a 9-1 battering. John Stones treble included the defeat of Michael Wrigley 11-7, 8-11, 11-2, 11-9. Katie Lightowler, also with three, along the way got the better of David Ayrton 11-9, 12-10, 2-11, 11-9. Perhaps surprisingly the Rose's point came from Catherine Lawson who played above herself to defeat Steve Taylor 12-10, 4-11, 11-9, 11-7. Lightowler and Stones sewed it up for the leaders 11-6, 10-12, 11-5, 11-5 in the doubles against Wrigley and Lawson.
Ilkley Road A, many people's tip for an immediate return to Division Two, now stand proudly in fourth place - their highest position in 30 years - following a stunning display at home to Ukrainians. Peter Holbrook started confidently for the visitors with an 11-7, 12-10, 11-8 defeat of Neil Foley. However the next point registered by the Ukies didn't come until set 9 when Jerry Harkawy also got the better of Foley. In between, Bartlett earned the Riddlesden team three points with defeats of Holbrook, 15-13, 13-11, 11-8; Harkaway and Stef Szczur. Additionally, Roy Towler, playing at this level for the first time in 18 years, grabbed a max including a nail biting 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 4-11, 17-15 score against Harkawy. Foley and Bartlett then teamed up to secure an 8-2 win for Ilkley Road with the defeat of Holbrook and Harkaway 9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7 in the doubles.
Embassy A playing their first match of the season, looked ominously good as Peter Kitching, Gareth Wiles and Carl White handed out a 10-0 whitewashing to their second string of Palminder Sandhu, Nick Kaye and Nadim Asghar, who was unfortunate not to register, going down in the fifth to Kitching 11-9 and White 11-8.
Division Two saw Lothersdale B stretch their lead at the top to11 points over Stockbridge Spartans with a 9-1 defeat of the second placed team. Martin Connolly was unstoppable with a faultless treble that included the defeat of Abid Hussain 11-6, 11-9, 12-10. David Galley got the better of Munzir Nasir 11-9, 11-2, 11-5 on his way to a max and the only good news for the Spartans came in the shape of a Ray Wallace triumph over Peter Midgley 11-7, 11-9, 11-9.
Lothersdale C retain third spot despite a 9-1 reversal at Airedale Terriers who move to within one point of their rivals. Paul Beck was good value with his treble including the defeat of Richard Crookes 7-11, 11-4, 13-11, 12-10. Stuart Myers also played admirably for a max, along the way defeating Andrew Lambe 13-11, 9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4. Promoted teams Ilkley Road B and Johnson & Johnson met in a Riddlesden shoot out. Steve Barton played well for the home team, notching a couple off Allan Ripley and Derek Stanforth 11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 11-7. Good support from Chris Dunn saw another couple of points for the Roaders off the same two players, but John Pullen steadied the ship for the Gargrave boys with a treble that included the 11-6, 10-12, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 defeat of Barton. The other J&J point came from Stanforth who defeated Rob McLean 16-14, 6-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-7. Dunn and McLean wrapped up a 6-4 win for Ilkley Road with an 11-7, 12-10, 11-6 defeat of Ripley and Pullen in the doubles.
In Division Three, Ilkley Road C go three points clear at the top with an 8-2 win at Haworth. Paul Stead cruised to a max with his toughest game being against Steve Cole 11-6, 11-8, 11-6. Steve Ives also grabbed three including the defeat of Nathan Hogg 11-5, 14-12, 11-8, 11-4. A couple from South Craven's star player Edward Jagger couldn't prevent his team from slipping to a 6-4 defeat at Embsay for whom Russell Findley showed his mettle with a max that included a pulsating 11-9, 6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-5 defeat of Jagger. Matthew Wiggan and Chris Farnworth both got the better of Embsay's Wilf Chatwin, but a couple from Norman Hunt against Wiggan 11-9, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8 and Farnworth 11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8 gave the advantage to the home team going into the doubles when Findley and Hunt teamed up to clinch it with a win against Jagger and Farnworth 11-7, 14-12, 8-11, 11-7.
Many people's tips for promotion clashed this week and, fittingly, it ended all square between Keighley Central and Crossflatts. Danny McHugh, potentially the best player in the Division, grabbed three for visitors Crossflatts, including the defeat of Azeem Khan 5-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-7. Team mate John Patrick's couple saw him win against Kamran Ramzan 11-7, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6. However, Central hit back through Mohammed Nafise who got the better of Anthony Mann 11-7, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8 and Khan who enjoyed wins against both Mann and Patrick before Ramzan and Nafise squared it up in the doubles 12-10, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9 against McHugh and Patrick.
