Keighley 8 Wakefield 16 - Keighley Albion Cats launched their season with a tough tackling display against Wakefield.
Last season's Premier division runners-up proved tough opposition for an opening game which saw the Cats short of players, but high in team spirit and commitment.
Wakefield were kept at bay for the first 25 minutes by a solid team performance. Constant pressure resulted in a classic Wakefield try followed by a conversion.
The Cats responded immediatley with a superb try by Sarah shillito, but it was not converted. The visitors increased the pressure again scoring two tries to take a 16-4 lead.
Once again the Keighley side hit back, with a power playon the fifth tackle and forced Sarah Shillito over the line for her second try. The conversion was missed and Wakefield held out for the win.
Sarah shillito was the player of the match, closely followed by Sarah Cartwright who was captain. Laura Ackroyd's tactical kicking created chances for Keighley to apply pressure throughout the game.
On Sunday the Cats face Brighouse (formerly Halifax) at Markey, kick-off 1.30pm.
