Keighley 2nd XV 20 Old Brodleians 2nds10 -
Keighley pulled off a satisfying win against a team, which over the years they have struggled to defeat.
The platform was set by some hard work by the forwards led by Simon Atkin. The blend of youth and experience within the pack was a good combination. Unfortunately Salmon, coming back from injury, had a reoccurrence of his shoulder injury late in the game.
Evan Griffin was outstanding at prop both in the scrums and in the loose where his dynamic runs caused problems. Bob Clarke as usual not only won lots of ball in the lineout but he caused problems for the Brods hooker who had great difficulty in avoiding Clarke's reach when he was throwing in.
With Ian Woodwiss and Richard Cavender calling the shots at halfback two tries came from the backs. One by John Hinchliffe, and the other , the try of the match, by Nick Wright when half the team were involved in the passing movement which was completed by Wright scoring under the posts.
The third try was scored by the John Gibson, an up and coming young backrow forward. Cavender converted one try and kicked one penalty goal.
Brods replied with a converted try and one penalty.
