Bradford Bulls, a specialist paint manufacturer, and an accountant who will turn DJ for the day will be among the people attending Bradford Cathedral for a service celebrating the wealth of talent in local businesses.

Fifty companies have already signed up to take part in the annual trade and industry service held by Bradford Chamber of Commerce and the cathedral.

The service was given a radically new and lively approach last Christmas, and drew 70 businesses keen to take part and network.

Highlights of the first 'new-look' service included King Crumble, from the pantomime at the Alhambra Theatre, who read a lesson in his king's costume; background music with a work theme; and a sermon by the Bishop of Bradford who had been installed the previous day.

The next service, on January 13, will feature readings from Martin Wainwright, northern editor of the Guardian and author of a fast-selling book about Bradford. The Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Reverend Christopher Hancock, will also speak on the topic No vision: No life.

Other businesses which have already booked to take part will bring along their products: chairs, biscuits made locally, handmade rugs and coverings, fashion displays, robots and engraved glass.

During the afternoon, children from Bradford schools will visit the Cathedral to get an insight into the life of businesses in the district and see some of the career opportunities on offer.

Sandy Needham, chief executive of Bradford Chamber of Commerce, said: "Businesses in Bradford some amazing stories to tell - and the service provides a wonderful way to show other people what you do.

"We're delighted how popular this proved last year and we're looking forward to another packed event."

Dean Christopher Hancock added: "The Cathedral opens its doors to people of all faiths and none, and the trade and industry service is an occasion for celebrating all that is good about local enterprise."

Jazz before and after the service will be played by the 12 Bars From Mars quintet which includes artist and vocalist Barbara Baker, sculptor and sax player Martin Bond, bass player Carole Moss, of Bradford College, electrical engineer Pete Pearson on keyboards and IT trainer Nick Mullen on drums.

The service, sponsored by Careers Bradford, starts at 6pm. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Leanne Wright at Bradford Chamber (01274) 772777 or e-mail leanne.wright@bradfordchamber.co.uk.
