Keighley 25 Yarnbury 20
Keighley edged home in the re-run of the Yorkshire Division One match which was abandoned four weeks ago when the referee was injured towards the end of the game.
It was again a close affair but there was no doubting the merit of Keighley's win.
They swept into a 15-point lead early in the second half through two tries by No 8 Willie Hafu and one by skipper Rob Riley, with fly half Jonathan Hargreaves adding two conversions and a penalty goal.
In the face of some powerful forward play and clever running in the backs by Keighley, Yarnbury spent most of the first half in defence, only once breaking away for a converted try by flanker Gareth Jones after a run by centre Ben Horner.
Another long-range try, this time by centre Steven Fletcher midway through the second half, set the stage for a spirited Yarnbury revival. Fly half Steve Galbraith's conversion, followed by two penalty goals, reduced Keighley's lead to two points and in a tense final ten minutes the game was suddenly evenly balanced.
Keighley's nerves and defence held out however, with Hargreaves landing a last-minute penalty goal.
l World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson missed Newcastle's 66-27 rout of Spaniards Valladolid in the Parker Pen Challenge Cup with a shoulder injury. Newcastle will now play Montferrand.
