Local manufacturers attending meetings held over the last two weeks in Keighley and Bradford unanimously gave the go ahead to forming an alliance of manufacturing companies for the Airedale and Bradford area -- the only major area of Yorkshire without such an alliance.
The exploratory meetings were instigated by members of the Keighley Economy Group, spearheaded by Mick Milner, pictured, of Keighley firm Leach & Thompson, following a recent presentation to the group on the state of manufacturing in Keighley and Bradford.
Manufacturers heard about the benefits of forming alliances, including knowledge and best practice sharing through networking, and a greater influence on the regional strategy for manufacturing.
Brian Garthwaite, co-ordinator of the alliances in Calderdale and Kirklees, went along to share the experiences of those two recently-formed alliances.
Information about training grants and assistance available to manufacturing companies in reviewing their businesses was also provided. Table discussions were held so that manufacturers could air their views about the main issues and concerns facing their businesses today.
Plans are now being made to hold a major launch event for the Airedale and Bradford Manufacturing Alliance in early March. In the meantime, if you would like more information about the alliance and to obtain a membership application form, contact the alliance co-ordinator, Toni Halliwell, c/o Keighley Business Partnership, New Devonshire House, Devonshire Street, Keighley.
