Michael Standing is back in City's plans, insisting: Bryan Robson has made it a new club.

Standing could get the nod to replace the suspended Dean Windass against Rotherham tomorrow.

He came on for the last half-hour at Wigan - the first time he has played since demanding a move under Nicky Law.

Standing said: "It's up to the manager who he picks for the Rotherham game but hopefully I won't be far away. It's been a terrible season for me up to this point but now I just want to play a part in trying to keep us up.

"A fair crack of the whip is all I've asked for. With this manager I feel that if I'm doing the business I will get a chance like everybody else."

Standing has started only once this season against Sunderland in August and was subbed at half-time. The ball-playing midfielder was so fed up with being sidelined that he slapped in a transfer request.

He said: "I just wanted to play regularly but that's over now. The chairman turned it down because he didn't want me to go anywhere.

"But since the new manager has come in the whole place has changed. You feel like you're at a new football club.

"People walking into the place would never believe we were second bottom. There is so much belief in the club that sooner or later things will turn for us.

"You can see that by the way we're playing and I think the fans can see that. They feel we've got a chance now, which maybe wasn't the case a few weeks ago."

Standing, who has not held down a regular role for ten months, believes his attack-minded approach will be better suited under Robson.

"When he sent me on at Wigan I was told to link up with the frontmen and try to make things happen. That's just what I want to hear.

"Jason Gavin's sending off changed it all because we were looking quite comfortable. Even then their goal was a rubbish one that was bobbling everywhere.

"But we look a side good enough to survive. We are organised and playing good football and the new manager is happy to take a chance to try and win games.

"We played three up front against West Brom. Not many sides would do that against the leaders."

Ronnie Moore's Rotherham have not lost in six games to pull clear of the drop zone and are ten points ahead of City.

Standing added: "It's a massive game but if we can win tomorrow and then a couple more in the near future, we can make a move. Watching us play recently, people can see that's possible.

"There's no real point looking at the league table. It's a big ask after the first half of the season but everyone here thinks we can do it."
