THE Wharfedale Warrior, Wilkies Wasp, Smigwell Flyer, and The Coffin will be among those gravity powered vehicles hurtling down Skipton's Grassington Road at the weekend in a bid to become the Chapel Hill Festival of Speed champion.
There will be fierce competition to see if last year's record of one minute seven seconds for the kilometre-long course can be beaten.
This year sports cars will have a bigger role to play as the display will be much larger and many of them will parade up the hill.
The event will begin with practices in the morning, timed runs at 11.30am, 1.45pm and 3pm.
An auction will be conducted at 1pm by Simon Smith, and lots include a track day at the Croft Circuit, where you will be taught to drive a Caterham 7 around the track at speed, and an off-road 4x4 driving experience.
Other attractions will be a jazz band, traction engine rides, the Fresh AM roadshow, stalls and a barbecue.
The carts were inspected at the town's Coach Street car park on Wednesday to ensure they met the criteria and were safe to take part.
All the karts were subjected to the wibble-wobble test to check steering, and the hill-stop test to check brakes. Any that failed had just three days to improve the design for a re-test.
Last year the event raised £2,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. This year organisers hope to beat that amount.
