Adel went back to the top of the Airedale and Wharfedale league on a day when Rawdon and Burley provided the shocks. Battling against relegation both side produced excellent wins.
Adel went back to the top after Stuart Howie had hit 69 to help them past the Menston score of 203-9. Bottom club Menston belied their lowly position as they piled up the runs led by Matt Heffernan (51), Richard Burton (48) and Nick Thornton (35). Adel however showed their class with Howie leading the way with excellent support from B Hall with 67 and victory was gained off the last ball of the match.
Title rivals Follifoot, North Leeds and Steeton all fell to surprise defeats as the title battle took another twist.
North Leeds' defeat by second bottom Rawdon was perhaps the biggest shock of the day. North Leeds set Rawdon a massive target of 251-8 with good contributions from Tim Cooper (82), Tim Hollis (59) and Nigel Leech (31 no). Rawdon however were determined to improve their situation and they hammered their way to a four wickets win with Matt Doyle the hero with a superb 94. He was well supported by Jon Carey with 62 and Dennis Rock with 29.
Rawdon's reply was held up by the sun shining in the batsmen's eyes. A 13 minute wait for the sun to move round did little to halt Rawdon's charge with Doyle hammering 7 sixes in his innings.
Burley were also in carnival mood belting the Guiseley attack to all parts of the ground as they totalled 244. Young Australian David Pike top scored with 71 while David Brook made 50 and Ian Frost 45 no. Guiseley fell for 119 in reply as Nick Brook (5-29) and Richard Harrison (4-39) did the damage.
Neil Spragg hammered a superb 126 as Steeton made a massive 286-9 against Collingham but it was not enough as the home side romped home by four wickets thanks to magnificent batting from Tom Kilby (91) and Matt Cooke (69).
Bilton are again proving a force to be reckoned with and they defeated Green Lane by nine wickets. Lane were restricted to 108-9 as Steve Lawrence took 6-23. Darren Murray then produced another good innings of 53 not out as Bilton romped to victory. Miles Corish also had a good knock of 40.
