COMMONWEALTH Games fans will have a local to cheer on this weekend but forget the St George's flag it's the St Andrew's flag you will need.
Otley's Richard Allen will be competing for Scotland his mother's birthplace, in the triathlon event on Sunday which starts at 11am with the swim at Salford Quays.
It will be an Olympic distance triathlon with a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycle ride and a 10km run.
Richard started running in the team at All Saints Middle School, Otley, and with Skyrac Athletics Club.
He attended Prince Henry's Grammar School where he played rugby. He also played for Otley RUFC. Richard's sporting talent did not end there for he also cycled with Otley Cycle Club and became a member of the Aireborough Triathlon Club (now the Leeds and Bradford Triathlon Club).
Richard has been a member of the British Triathlon team since 1992 and he turned professional in 1994.
He now lives in Bath to be close to his training facilities but his parents Dr Nick and Mrs Diana Allen still live in Otley.
Richard was Junior World silver medallist in both triathlon and duathlon in 1994 and he has won six national titles.
