Former paratrooper Lee Clegg, who had a decade-long battle to clear his name after he was convicted of murdering a teenage joyrider at an Army checkpoint in Belfast, has found happiness after marrying his police officer fiancee.

Corporal Clegg and Julie Scott were married in an emotional church ceremony in the grounds of Nostell Priory, near Wakefield, on Saturday.

The sun shone as Cpl Clegg, who is now an Army physical training instructor made his vows to Miss Scott, a detective constable with West Yorkshire Police, whose family live in Haworth.

Today, the Vicar of the Church of St Michael and Our Lady The Reverend John Hadjioannou, who conducted the service, said it had been a wonderful celebration.

"I think for Lee the past is firmly behind him now and he and Julie are looking forward to their life together.

"It was a splendid service that Lee and Julie had helped to plan and it was meaningful to them."

Cpl Clegg's ten-year-old son to his previous marriage, Joshua, was deputy best man.

Cpl Clegg fought and won three appeals to clear his name after he was convicted of the murder of joyrider Karen Reilly, 18, and wounding driver Martin Peake, 17, who also died, as soldiers opened fire on the car they were in as it sped through a military checkpoint in 1990.
