Ambitious plans for a multi-million-pound business park which would bring 3,000 new jobs to the area have been announced.
Development company PPG Land Ltd, based in Leeds, is hoping to build a 715,000 sq ft office development at Clifton Business Park, near Brighouse, west of junction 25 of the M62 between Wakefield Road and Clifton.
The park will be built in distinct landscaped 'cells' - thought to be on four levels so residents of houses in Clifton will overlook the site rather than have it blocking their view.
The company is hoping to submit an outline planning application for the development to Calderdale Council's planners next month. If successful, it is expected to take five years before the site is opened and fully occupied.
Councillor Colin Stout (Ind, Brighouse), who attended a meeting of Brighouse Regeneration Committee where the plans were announced, said it was good news for the town.
"Because this site has been earmarked in the last Unitary Development Plan (the planning blueprint) for this sort of development, investment by a prestigious and high-quality company like PPG Land should be cautiously welcomed," he said.
"It'll be a great benefit to Brighouse. As well as bringing 3,000 jobs, there will be spin-off work like cleaners for the offices, window cleaners, car park attendants and security."
PPG Land has already been involved in the development of Lowfields Business Park at Elland.
The company said that as well as creating 3,000 jobs, the development would provide opportunities for local companies to expand and for regional and national investment projects to be attracted to the area.
PPG Land also hopes that many Brighouse residents currently working in Leeds or Manchester would be able to find employment closer to home.
Public consultations on the proposals are due to take place next month. Exhibitions giving details of the scheme are also expected to be held. It is also believed there would be an element within the development for a community facility.
