Yambury 15 Keighley 17
Keighley had won five of their previous seven league matches this season, but their chances of making it two victories over Yarnbury in eight days looked slim after 51 minutes of this derby.
Steve Galbraith had just knocked over his fifth penalty of the afternoon to give the Horsforth side a 15-0 lead, and Keighley had shown precious little to worry them.
Yarnbury's discipline was better and their defence had hardly allowed the visitors a sniff.
Keighley coach Tim Brunskill was pacing up and down the touchline with a gloomy expression, particularly when flanker Morgan Bailey took a quick tap penalty at 15-0 in the 51st minute, but only succeeded in isolating himself when a Jonathan Hargreaves kick at goal seemed a much better option.
And a Hargreaves' penalty success two minutes later didn't seem as if it would make much difference.
Then came the moment that helped change the match. Keighley replacement Scott Amos charged down a clearance in the 56th minute, and flanker Leigh Sugden was on hand to dive on the loose ball for the try.
Hargreaves converted to make it 15-10, and even Galbraith's confidence looked as if it had been ruffled when he hooked a penalty wide in the 58th minute, albeit from the wrong side for a left-footed kicker.
The biggest cheer of the day came five minutes later from keighley's supporters when Yarnbury were pulled up for not throwing in straight at a line-out, and the pendulum definitely seemed to be swinging Keighley's way.
But would it swing quickly enough as the visitors continued their higher risk policy of throwing the ball about in difficult conditions.
Keighley No 8 Willie Hafu topped a drop-goal attempt, and centre Dale Towler spilled the ball in midfield as time ebbed away.
But Yarnbury were definitely weakening, and a great drive by the visiting pack gave them heart.
Now it was a question of how many minutes referee Jeff Hudson (Yorkshire RFU) would add on.
Fortunately for Keighley, Yarnbury had suffered a few injuries in the final 20 minutes, and Hudson allowed 11 minutes of 'extra time'. In the eighth, Hargreaves went on a solo dash through some congested traffic to score close enough to the posts to make his conversion relatively easy.
But there was still time for Galbraith to attempt a potentially match-winning long-range drop goal for Yarnbury, but it fell just short.
A relieved Brunskill said: "Yarnbury played the conditions a lot better than us in the first half, but we regrouped at half-time and played a lot smarter in the second half.
"We deserved to win on a 2-0 try-count, but we almost paid the penalty for allowing Steve Galbraith too many kicks at goal - he is the best goal-kicker in the division - and we also made too many crass decisions."
Yarnbury coach Bob Hood said: "I feel very sorry for the lads because after our defeat to keighley the previous week we had put plans into place to nullify Willie Hafu and we did that. Also we were unlucky when centre Andy Marshall was ruled offside from a Galbraith cross-kick."
