A celebration dinner is set to boost the Telegraph & Argus Save Our Play Appeal to help closure-threatened Bradford Toy Library.

More than 600 guests have been invited to the Pakistan Society of West Yorkshire's annual Eid Millan Dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Bradford on Saturday.

The event is to mark the Muslim festival of Eid, which is held at the end of the fasting period of Ramadan.

And this year some of the proceeds of the dinner will go towards the Save Our Play appeal, which has so far raised £4,243 for the toy library.

More than 1,000 youngsters are registered with the library, which is run by an independent charity and based at St Luke's Hospital in Bradford.

It lends specially-designed toys to stimulate and develop children with disabilities and special needs, such as autism, Down's syndrome and cerebral palsy.

Important information about the conditions and support from two co-ordinators is also provided by the library.

But money at the charity is dwindling and unless it gets more funding, it will have to close next March.

The T&A is fundraising to find at least £12,000 - the amount needed to keep the facility open for the next 12 months.

Rashid Awan, president of the society, said they decided to support the appeal after reading about the toy library's financial problems in the T&A. He said: "We were keen to help. I think people should support the appeal to help it reach its target."

On the night there will be collections and an auction, with meal vouchers for several Bradford restaurants among the prizes up for grabs.

Event sponsors Kesser Jewellers, of White Abbey Road, have donated 24 carat gold jewellery.

The proceeds will be split between the Save Our Play appeal and the Lord Mayor's Appeal.

Donations have been flooding in to the Save Our Play appeal.

Holme Wood Senior Citizens Association has given £140, raised by a Christmas raffle.
