David Wetherall believes City's win over Coventry can act as a springboard for a revival in 2004.
The Bantams head into the new year with spirits lifted by Sunday's victory - their first since the 3-2 comeback success against Millwall in Bryan Robson's first game in charge.
They remain thick in the relegation scrap and basement side Wimbledon could draw level again with a win over West Brom tonight.
But Wetherall, back from a knee injury after ten weeks out, feels the squad have the stomach to fight their way out of trouble.
He said: "We've had too many games when we've deserved to get points and not got them. That's why we're in the situation we are in.
"On Sunday, you could probably make a case for us not deserving to win. But through grit and determination and no little desire we've come away with a victory.
"Now we need to do that on a regular basis. Hopefully we can get another win in the FA Cup and with two on the bounce the confidence will really start to return.
"There is still a long way to go and a lot can change. I keep pointing to Rotherham and how all of a sudden they are in mid-table.
"A run of seven or eight games unbeaten, with five or so wins in that, and it gets you right back up there and in the pack. That's the type of run we've got to be looking at."
City have won only five of their 26 games so far and need to win half of the remaining 20 to hit the 50-point barrier, which is widely regarded as the safety margin against the drop.
Stoke pulled it off from an identical position last season and Wetherall wants to see City do the same.
He added: "If we got the results we deserved since the new management team came in, then our form wouldn't be too far off what Rotherham have done.
"It's just a case of everyone learning from what's gone wrong over the last five or six games and making sure those little mistakes are put right. Hopefully, if we can do that and bang in the scoring chances when they come our way - like Deano (Dean Windass) did against Coventry - then we shouldn't be too far off."
