Work on a series of major road improvements is set to cause upheaval in Lidget Green, Bradford, in the New Year, drivers have been warned.
They are being urged to find an alternative route while the six weeks of work is under way.
John Blackburn, head of Bradford Council's major works service, said: "While this work will cause some inconvenience to motorists, it will be a great benefit to them in the long run."
Resurfacing work will begin on Monday, January 12, in Beckside Road between Great Horton Road and Legrams Lane, and on Cemetery Road between Legrams Lane and Duncombe Road.
The work will involve temporary traffic lights and road closures.
Councillor John Godward (Lab, Great Horton) said: "The surfaces of both Beckside Road and Cemetery Road need re-doing.
"I have listened to some grumbles from people about the inconvenience of the roadworks but it's necessary, I'm afraid.
"It's a case of grinning and bearing it and reaping the benefits in the long run."
Work will take place on Cemetery Road between 9.30am and 6pm, Mondays to Fridays, and 8am to 6pm on Saturdays.
The work on Beckside Road will be carried out in four sections.
From 8am to 6pm on Sundays only, the road will be closed between Great Horton Road and Westcroft Road.
The stretch from Lidget Terrace, including its junction with Legrams Lane and a section of Cemetery Road, will be worked on from 8am to 6pm on Sundays only.
Clayton Road and Legrams Lane will be closed at their junction with Beckside Road with traffic using Cemetery Road.
Beckside Road will be controlled by temporary traffic lights over two consecutive Sundays. Beckside Road will be closed between Spencer Road and Lidget Terrace to motorists driving towards the Legrams Lane and Cemetery Road traffic lights, with a diversion along Spencer Road and Clayton Road.
Some side roads will also be temporarily closed with appropriate diversion routes added.
