Goalkeeper Nico Vaesen felt he should have cut out Darren Bent's wonder goal.
The Ipswich striker fired home a second-half curler which condemned City to another morale-sapping loss.
Vaesen, signed the day before on loan from Birmingham, said: "The third goal was a soft one and I should have done much better.
"I thought it was going wide but then watched it bend and it ended up in the bottom corner.
"Bryan Robson is the reason why I joined this club, he persuaded me after all and I want to do well for him. But I need to do better than that, especially the second half.
"I'm very disappointed because I thought we could get a result and start a bit of a run. But there are no excuses and all of us will have to do a lot better."
Dean Windass cancelled out Shefki Kuqi's opener on the stroke of half-time, marking his first start since the FA Cup defeat by Luton with his third goal of the season.
But 30 seconds later Ipswich were back in front through Ian Westlake and City never looked like coming back again.
Bent, who had set up the first two goals, sealed the result seven minutes into the second half to leave Bryan Robson's side deep in the relegation mire.
"Bradford have got to get going soon," said Ipswich boss Joe Royle.
"But they have an easier run-in to come.
"We'd had good reports on the way they had been playing but they weren't at their best on Saturday - credit us for that."
