SKIPTON lost itself a charity shop and gained itself a chocolate heaven this week after Walkers opened up on Newmarket Street.
Chocolatier Robert Walker has established a second shop at the former Sue Ryder base in response to increasing demand for his hand-crafted products. He also sells patisserie, celebration cakes and ice creams.
The move reverses the trend, criticised by some residents, of charity shops moving into the High Street area.
Mr Walker, who lives in Carleton, already has a bakery and chocolate shop on Water Street. The new venture has cost almost £50,000 and has entailed a complete overhaul of the former charity shop including the installation of a specialist fridge to ensure the chocolate is kept in optimum condition.
