Jim Jefferies has snapped up Alan Combe on his form in Scotland - and not with City.
Kilmarnock's former Bantams boss is signing Combe, who was released from his contract yesterday, in time for the keeper to begin pre-season training on Monday.
But Jefferies opted for Combe on the strength of his performances with Dundee United before he headed south to Valley Parade a year ago.
He said: "To judge anybody at Bradford in the circumstances of the last 18 months is very difficult. It must be soul-destroying for those lads not knowing if they are in a job from one week to another.
"There's so much going on in their heads, it cannot be easy to perform at your best. You've got to give all the players credit for knuckling down and trying their hardest.
"But I'm judging Alan from what he did in the Scottish Premier. From what I've seen in the past he has been a competent keeper who likes to let defenders know he is there.
"There have been one or two incidents in the last couple of years that he has been involved in but that's probably down to his winning attitude."
Combe is set to be followed out the door by Gareth Edds, who was today having talks with Milton Keynes Dons. If the Australian under-23 international leaves, Colin Todd's squad will be down to just nine senior players - with no goalkeeper.
Todd has been barred by the administrators from recruiting players but should the club survive, that is the position that he will look to fill first.
Combe, who this week admitted the on-going crisis at City was an "absolute shambles", played 22 times last season.
l Todd target Bradley Orr will next week sign for Bristol City.
