Workington 1

Guiseley 2

Guiseley moved up a place to seventh in the UniBond League Premier Division table after a morale-boosting victory against runaway league leaders Workington.

"Hats off to the boys," said manager Neil Parsley, "We played really well and it's very pleasing to go to a place like Workington, who are top by a considerable margin, and come away with the three points."

Scott Jackson struck an early blow, pouncing on a defensive mistake to net after seven minutes.

Workington equalised five minutes before the break in controversial circumstances.

Sam Denton was penalised for a foul near the touchline, a decision which was met with dismay by Parsley, who felt Denton was having his shirt tugged and that the free-kick should have been given the other way.

Workington made the most of the referee's decision to pull level, and spoil Guiseley's run of four consecutive clean sheets.

But with 20 minutes to go Simon Parke showed his strength to ride several challenges before picking his spot with a 20-yard strike.

"Simon celebrated in style in front of our travelling fans and I'm glad we made their journey worthwhile," said Parsley.

"Confidence is high at the moment, and rightly so because the boys are full of running and not conceding many goals.

"We're in the promotion frame and if we can beat Matlock tomorrow then it is going to be an exciting end to the

season."
