There could be late changes to the Avenue squad that travels to Worcester City in the Conference North tomorrow as Bradford boss Carl Shutt works on three deals that could bring fresh quality to the club.

Avenue are in need of an injection of class players as they launch a concerted push to climb off the foot of the table. Shutt is confident of landing at least one of his targets in time to be involved.

"The one we are very optimistic about is a young player who is having his contract with a Football League side paid up, making him a free agent.

"One of the others is a player Avenue supporters know all about," said a guarded Shutt.

The manager has been left in the lurch by some players during his tenure at Avenue and is not prepared to name names until the ink is dry on the paperwork. That is why the supporters were not aware of Pete Naylor until he made his debut in the 3-2 defeat at Barrow on Tuesday.

"We registered him as an Avenue player just in time for him to be involved and he played in the game. He has been on the bench for Halifax Town earlier this season so he has what it takes at this level," added Shutt.

"He is a left-sided player and he can do a job at full back, on the left side in the centre of defence or in midfield."

It was a difficult week for Shutt's men. They were beaten 4-0 at Hinkley last Saturday and then twice took the lead at Barrow but still managed to lose the game.

"I think we can pick up points at Worcester City. Not one side in this division has outplayed us all season.

"We are not in awe of anyone. The only team that frightens me is Bradford Park Avenue but believe me, we will get there. We will get the players right and find some consistency."
