Keighley 2nd XV 42, Yarnbury 2nd XV 10 - This was a game where the Keighley side was packed with experience and youth and the blend was just too strong for the visiting side.
Keighley soon were camped on the Yarnbury line, and from a five yard scrum Mark Lister picked up and held would-be tacklers off and slipped a pass to Morgan Bailey who crossed for the first try of the afternoon after only five minutes.
Bailey and Lister were to be thorns in the side of the opposition all afternoon. Then some poor concentration by Keighley saw them give away three penalties in as many minutes and the Yarnbury kicker converted a penalty into three points.
Bailey popping up all over the field chased a ball which was hacked down the field and was unlucky not to score again. The chase kept Yarnbury on the defensive and from an ensuing lineout Lister broke clear and fed Duncan Walsh who was fired up for the game and dived over for his first try of the season. Michael Hebden converted from wide out.
It was all Keighley now and only resolute tackling kept them out. Chris Watts opened up the Yarnbury defence with a strong run down the wing, in support was the ever present Bailey who crossed in the corner for his second try.
Keighley now were prepared to increase the pressure at a steady pace and Hebden added three more points from a penalty.
Good back play by centres Gaffney and Balderstone gave Watts the chance to round his man to cross for his first try. Hebden tagged on the two extra points.
Bailey crated a try for Watts when he put pressure on the Yarnbury stand off at the back of a scrum and when the ball was spilled Bailey snapped up the ball moved it left and two passes saw Watts cross in the corner for his second try. Hebden kicked a good goal for the conversion.
Watts soon had his third try when Ryan Gill and Hebden combined taking a quick lineout throw on the right wing and then the ball was moved sharply out to the left and Watts scooted over in the corner.
Yarnbury came back and deciding that the ball should be kept in their forwards they at last managed to score under the posts to give their kicker and easy conversion for the extra points.
Keighley had the last say of the game when Hebden kicked a long distance penalty in the dying minutes.
