DOUGIE LAMPKIN was back on the podium after putting in a great display in the latest round of the Indoor World Championship.
The Silsden rider took third place in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, and is happy with the way development of the new fourstroke Montesa bike is progressing.
Albert Cabestany halted Adam Raga's domination of the series after a timed tie-decider.
Lampkin was third in the qualifiers and his result has strengthened his grip on third place in the overall standings. In the final Lampkin fired up the works Honda Montesa and matched the two Spanish riders through the first five sections but lost out on the races.
"I felt I was in with a shout then I failed the skip section, but then so did Cabestany, and he won. I missed the line on the pool hazard and went into the water."
He added: "I really don't know what happened on the waterfall. I was sure the back wheel spun then suddenly gripped, so that was another five on my score."
The series moves to Italy next Saturday and Lampkin hopes to have made further progress on the new bike as he prepares for his main target, the oudoor championship.
n Robin Luscombe and passenger Les Ashby had to settle for third place in the second round of the British sidecar trials championship on the Isle of Man last weekend after a modified shockabsorber on his new Montessa broke in transit.
He dug out last year's bike but found the going tough on his old machine.
The thirteen-times national champion, from Cullingworth, was left sharing first place in the championship with Robin and Gill Morewood.
